Look for less: Steve Madden Boucle Coat

Steve Madden Boucle Coat

It's always exciting to report on a fashion find, especially when it's as good as the one we just found last week. This is the Steve Madden Faux Leather Sleeve Boucle Coat, which is selling at Nordstrom for $228(Currently on sale for $149.90), but we found the same exact at Marshalls for a fraction, of a fraction, of the price at $69.99! Talk about a savings! It's a great coat that can be styled to dress up or down. How can we not love our TJX stores? You can always find a great item(not a replica, but the exact item) for such a great price. It almost makes us feel like we're cheating the system. If you want in on this amazing savings, be sure to check your local Marshalls.

Simply Stylist NY 2013

Hey beautiful people! Hope you are all enjoying the week thus far. Wanted to stop by and give you all a recap of this past weekend. We headed to NY to attend Simply Stylist NY 2013, an event where the best curators in the fashion and beauty industry assemble to teach others how to acquire top notch positions in the industry, tell their story, and most importantly network. Simply Stylist was founded by Sarah Boyd, a former PR girl, who wanted to give back by creating an atmosphere where individuals could network and build solid business relationships.
Us with Sarah Boyd, Founder of Simply Stylist

The morning commenced with brunch at the Park Central Hotel, hosted by Hautelook a Nordstrom company. The set up was breathtaking! We sat in a booth enclosed with glass mirrors, adding to the sophistication of the hotel. As we dined, we had the opportunity to hear the story of Elissa Kravetz, a former Steve Madden intern, turned PR girl, who delivered such a powerful message about being fearless and persistent towards achieving her dreams. Not very often do you hear someone acclaim their success to being honest yet kind, within an industry that could be extremely brutal. As someone who used to be bullied, she vowed to take the long route to success, by staying true to her heart, and treating others as she would want to be treated. Consequently, Elissa founded the Farley project where she speaks at schools nationwide against bullying.

After brunch, we were blessed with the opportunity to learn from an amazing line up of panelists, moderated by the ever so chic, Cat Sadler of E! News. One of the many highlights was meeting Jay Manuel. Not sure if you know this, but Jay was pursuing a career in music before starting a career in fashion. His story was compelling and truly inspired us to continue to grow as bloggers.

The knowledge we gained from attending Simply Stylist was absolutely priceless! We learned to be relentless and fearless as we continue to reach for our dreams, network like there is no tomorrow, and to stay true to our core by paying kindness forward in all our endeavors. Regardless of how ruthless the environment may be, kindness always pays off!

September Issue: NYFW Pt. 2

While attending NYFW my schedule was really tight, so I had to be sure to keep up with the New York pace of things. I attended three designers' shows for Summer/Spring 2014, Jenny Parham, Alhassan Toure, and Shateria Moragne-el.

My favorite show would definitely have to be the Toure "Coming to America" show. His idea of fusing modern American style with bold African prints/structure was absolutely genius. To start off, two men rocked on the runway playing drums, paying hommage to the designers' African roots. The inclusion of leather, spikes, and bright colors throughout the line, gave it a fresh look. To top it off, the models' hair styles were funky and eccentric, adding an urban twist to the collection. I commend Mr. Toure for such a genius collection in which anyone could make their own.
One show I was bummed at myself for missing was Rachel Zoe. My cab driver tried his best to get me to Lincoln Center on time, and after being spared from the roller coaster ride of getting there (Thank God!) I missed check-in by a less than a minute! So after I called my girlfriend Damali for moral support, and got through having a fit in a corner by myself (meanwhile keeping my cool on the outside), I shook it off and got to mingling. And as fate would have it, I met some phenomenal people whom I would not have met had it been otherwise. Amongst those I met was Robert Verdi, who actually stopped me to take a pic of my ears. I also met renowned bloggers Joy Adaeze from Joylovesfashion and Necole from Necole Bitchie, both of whom were sweet and kind enough to give me sound advice as an up and coming blogger. Ms. Jay of course, needs no introduction, he or should I say she(?) did not waste a minute to pose for this pic. True fashionsta indeed!
Finding time to eat a hearty meal was vital during NYFW. Running from one event to the next could run you of all your energy. I fell in love with a restaurant right across from Lincoln Center called "The Smith". A host from one of the company's sponsoring fashion week was gracious enough to recommend it to me. Needless to say, I fell in love with the food, so much so that I went two days in a row. The photo on the left is of the insanely delicious mac n cheese and deviled eggs. Clearly I was unaware of the large portions served and only ate a third of my meal (the leftovers were righteous though). On the second day, which was my birthday, I dined with a friend named Cue from Chi-town. This time I had chicken and honey glazed potato waffles, which were a pure delight! I love to eat so this was heaven for me! To top it off I indulged myself in one of their desserts called the "S'more in a jar". My only justification for pushing the limit was that I was the birthday girl.

An exciting moment during my experience at NYFW was getting interviewed by different journalists from major publications, including Vogue (OMG!!). Although it was flattering, it was also a very humbling experience. Click here to watch an Interview that Cue and I did for the Pittsburg post on street style (watch the clip on 'tips for good streetstyle..').

I never thought I would say this, but when it was all said and done I was so ready to get back home to Boston! Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed every bit of my time during NYFW, but there truly is no place like home. 'Til next time beauties!!

September Issue: NYFW Pt. 1

Hey beauties!!!! Yes, it has been a while since we've posted, so we kindly ask for your forgiveness.  We have been the ultimate busy bees, but we promise to be in full affect for the weeks to come. In other news, I (Cassan) had the pleasure of attending the Summer/Spring Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2014 in New York, which was an absolutely mind-blowing experience. Unfortunately, Farrah was unable to make it due to her nursing schedule, but I think I did a good job holding us down. God blessed me by making my birthday fall on fashion week every year! This year I decided to make a vacation out of it, and took the entire week off to attend some shows and work the tents. It's impossible to give you a recap of everything that occurred in one post, so today I'm going to post about what I wore and give you more deets on fashion week in a later post this week. Enjoy!!

Riding the Heat Wave

Hey y'all! Hope everyone is enjoying the summer thus far. Summer has been in full swing here in Boston. We just got over a major heat wave, but who's complaining, it's much better than being cold. It was hard to think about having to get dressed in such extreme heat. Much like dressing for the cold, fashion takes presedence; after all, "once a fashionista, always a fashionista". In our opinion it's much easier to dress for the summer because there are so many cute, flirty pieces you can pair with bold sandals or shoes. Check out our outfits below, to see what we wore to combat this warm weather.

Glasses: urban outfitters, Shirt: hm, Pants: hm, Purse: Tommy Hilfiger via tjmaxx, Shoes: tjmaxx

Dress: hm, Shoes: guess marciano via guess marciano, Glasses: armani exchange via tjmaxx, Watch: fossil via tjmaxx

May Haitianista of the Month!!!

Hello Readers! My sister (Cassandre) and I have been doing alot of traveling lately but we have not forgotten about our readers. As promised there is a Haitianista for each month. For the month of May we would like to introduce you to our fabulous Haitianista of the month:
Name: Kayla Shivers
Age:23
Resident: Durham NC
Social network: tumblr-honeydippedwildflower
My fashion style: I'm like a gumbo of J. Crew, Madewell, Lucky, and Urban Outfitters. I love bohemian styles in the summer, full denim and leather in the fall/winter. I can go from looking like the 70s to an NYC/LA street chick to a southern belle! Just depends on the day. Inspiration: personally my grandmother and mother built my fashion roots. My grandmother headed north in her early 20s and became a shop-a-Holic which then passed to my mother and then me! My grandmother always encouraged my fashion taste even if it was a little offbeat. She knew the importance of being an individual. My celebrity fashion inspiration comes from June Ambrose and Rachel Zoe! LOVE their commitment to their own personal styles (June's love for hats and Zoe's bohemian chic addiction), but yet they help their clientele stay true to themselves. So professional! I've also started following this blogger Irina Lavicevic. She's a dentist by day and fashionista by night and that's basically my dream!!! What I'm up to: currently I am on my way back to school at North Carolina Central University pursuing a second degree in Chemistry. I'm also applying for the 2014 cycle of dental school (so send your blessings my way!). I work in retail at Loft and I waitress on the side, in my free time I volunteer and shadow local dentist in the Durham area.

Mother's Day

Hey guys! While I was away last weekend, Cassan and Nemiah took it upon themselves to have a mother-daughter photoshoot. I absolutely love how they matched with their H&M jackets. I'm quite sure Nemiah was excited to make her debut on here; she is very hands on with our blog behind the scenes, and likes to give us advice about what we should post, etc. I also love how these photos depict the contrast in personality between the two(Shoutout to Valerie for taking such gorgeous photos). Check them out below:

Nemiah being goofy as usual lol!
Cassan caught her getting ready to do something....(probably a wet willy)
Judging by her reaction, she's guilty lol
Love my niece! She makes everything so fun!
Looks like these two had a ball!
